Jordan denies it has US prisons on its territory

AMMAN (AFP) — Jordan denied reports by a US-based human rights group suggesting that it had a US-run detention center on its territory.

"There are no American detention centers in Jordan," government spokeswoman Asma Khodr told AFP.

"The report carried by Human Rights First is totally unfounded," she said.

The human rights group charged on Thursday that the United States was holding suspects in the war on terrorism in more than two dozen detention centers around the world, at least half of which operate in total secrecy.
