Federal authorities hunted for nine suspects Friday amid an operation against dozens of "doctors" accused of obtaining their licenses through fraud — and the father of one of them allegedly threatened to kill anyone who cooperated with investigators.

Gilberto Rodriguez, who is himself a doctor, was jailed on a witness tampering charge. A notice taped to the door of his shuttered medical practice in a San Juan strip mall said he was away "on vacation" until Monday.

A federal grand jury on Wednesday indicted 91 people, including a former director and a secretary of the licensing board and Rodriguez. A total of 88 people were accused of having obtained medical credentials by fraud.

Among the nine still being sought, three were believed to be in Puerto Rico and five in Philadelphia, Florida and in the Dominican Republic, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Jose Ruiz.

Ruiz said the probe could produce charges against more people.

Puerto Rico doctors' arrests make it in the Arab ALJAEERA. This news event has made it in the International Herald Tribune, today's New York Times and many major national and local newspapers. It was on Fox news and other major cable news stations. My friends in the states are astonished that this happened. They ask how in the world could it have happened on such a grand scale.

I told them that more arrests are likely to develop as the investigations continue. Also, the real big news about corruption in Puerto Rico is yet to come. AAV's alledged illegal contributions and payoffs may turn out to be a bigger and more widespread story about corruption in the history of Puerto Rico.

What is laughable is that the PDP has spent lots of taxpayers' money and time trying to connect Pedro Rosselló directly with corruption. They have failed. Yet, the PDP has completely ignored or stalled any investigations of suspected corruption in the Calderón or the Acevedo administrations. Imagine they tried to prevent Rosa Rodriquez's nomination for U.S. Attorney for Puerto Rico from happening because they wanted to prevent her from doing her job.

The United States needs to take over all the government agencies of Puerto Rico. The political parties just work against each other and don't do the work that they should be doing. They are always looking to place fault at the other party. These politicians are stealing government funds by taking salaries for the deplorable jobs that they are doing. Forget the plebiscite! The U.S. needs to just take over the country and replace each and every one of those crooked politicians.

I lived in Puerto Rico for 12 years and I saw the circus that goes on in those government offices. I worked as a Credit/Collections Representative and in order for me to have a check ready for pick-up (because the accounts were always in arrears)I had to make sure I had plenty of coffee and donuts in hand so that I would be given the check promptly without having to wait for hours on end. If you didn't bring snacks etc they would make you wait all day for the check - This is no lie! This is the way that they operate! The act of trying to register a purchased used car or trying to renew a license is a joke!

For these so-called Doctors to be able to con their way to a license to practice medicine on a human being is beyond me. Most of the government employees make it a practice to take bribes. This is shameful and I hope that they loose the privilege of ever practicing medicine again. It is also imperative that a listing of these so-called doctors be made known to the public.

I know work for a company in Texas and I handle the Spanish desk - The clients that I deal with are mostly from Puerto Rico and Are mostly government employees. These government agencies even work against their own employees. Government needs an overhaul and the present Governor needs to be investigated and all his $5,000.00 suits need to be auctioned or sold and the money put back into the system. Shame, Shame on all of them! - Sonia from Waco, Texas

This is just the tip of the iceberg.
I studied medicine in the Dominican Republic and I took the Revalida of Puerto Rico and I was successful in both parts and I tested during the years of 2003-2004. Was there cheating going on? Yes!!! During the exam the exam proctors walked up and down the aisles of this large basketball gymnasium keeping an eye on things, but cheating continued. Did I cheat? No! The exams were not a walk in the park, but I had a distinct advantage. My advantage is that I am fluent in both english and spanish furthermore in medical english and medical spanish. The other advantage I have is that the exam is written in both languages. Each question is written in english and spanish on the same test sheet. When a question was poorly written I had the option to read the other. The difference was high passing from low passing. I see a bigger picture here. I anticipate that now since many of the local doctors are out of the way and the local doctors remaining are in question as to their validity just because being Puerto
Rican, an influx of American bred, American trained doctors are planning to infiltrate the "country," it's the American way. The American doctors will not arrive one by one, they will be flown in by companies establishing offices and hospitals ready to move in and work on the tropical island. Gradually infiltrating the medical governing body and phasing it out or Americanizing it, it's better, it's the American way. This investigation has been years in the making and it is a strategy to allow the system to implode as it has and will continue. It's a simple 1-2 punch...you allow the establishment to discredit itself. Then you ridicule the pons. Next the Great White Hope comes in to pick up the pieces, inject (no pun intended) it's own fixer up system and restore and "improve" it. They are all heroes!!! Stay tuned!!!
