Golden 1's Penick Named Winner of WOCCU Award
SACRAMENTO, Calif.-Amy Penick, administrative and project coordinator with The Golden 1 Credit Union here, was awarded the Young Credit Union Professional Award at the 2002 World Council of Credit Union's Conference in Poland last week. The award goes to credit union professionals under the age of 35 who consistently make outstanding contributions to the credit union industry. Penick's most recent endeavor at The Golden 1 has been to spearhead the development of an on-campus branch at Lincoln High School.
More Than 650 Turn Out For Maine Meeting
AUGUSTA, Maine-More than 650 credit union representatives turned out here for the Maine league's annual meeting here. The league, which reported that Maine has grown into the fifth-strongest "credit union state in the nation," used the theme United We Stand for the meeting to reflect the post-Sept. 11 mood of the country and its own efforts to remain united in serving the 586,000 CU members in the state. CUNA Economist Steve Rick told credit unions to expect to continue to see growth in savings portfolio, because members are still in a wait-and-see mode while they wait to see what happens with the economy.
Other speakers included Rep. John Baldacci and Michael Michaud, president of the Maine Senate and a board member at Eastmill FCU.
