Biography

b. 1944, Palm Springs, California, USA. A guitarist who has enjoyed cult status for more than a decade, Henderson grew up in Tyler, Texas, close to the Louisiana border. By the early 60s, he was recording sessions at the town's Robin Hood Studios, where later, ZZ Top recorded their early albums. In 1964, he was in a local garage band, the Sensors, when he met Ronnie Weiss with whom he formed Mouse And The Traps, a folk rock band that eventually relocated to Dallas and had a minor hit with "A Public Execution". In 1971, he returned to Tyler and played in a country band until he was contacted by John Nitzinger, who was recording for Capitol Records and needed a guitarist. Despite touring with Leon Russell, B.B. King and the Allman Brothers Band, Henderson left in 1974 to form his own trio with Bobby Chitwood and Ron Thompson. With the Shuffle Kings, he has kept the trio formula for most of the succeeding 20 years, occasionally augmenting the line-up with a rhythm guitarist or a keyboard player. Unwilling to be classified, he refers to what he produces as "American music", running the gamut from Link Wray and the Ventures to B.B. King. That diversity is celebrated in the album of the same name, which features contributions from, among others, Johnny Winter, Jimmie Vaughn, Bill Hamm and Joe Ely.
