A123 Receives Further Capital Infusion. A123Systems (Watertown, MA) a developer of a new generation of lithium-ion nanoscale battery electrodes originally developed at MIT, has received a further $30 million in private equity funding. This current round of funding brings the total investments to $62 million since the company founding in 2001. A123Systems will use this new capital infusion primarily to increase manufacturing capacity and accelerate the development of batteries for hybrid electric vehicles.
