Frederic chapin Lane

(1900 -- 1984 ), American historian who earned his doctorate at Harvard University under Abbott Payson Usher in 1930 and was professor of history at the Johns Hopkins University until his retirement in 1966 .

Lane's primary research interest was the economic and social history of medieval and early modern Venice.
