A substantial number of Polynesian music discs are bland grass-skirt collections of poor-quality material. The selection in this discography is more ethnographic, but it's the real thing. Many come from the Anthology of Pacific Music on the Dutch label, Pan, recorded by Ad and Lucia Linkels, which includes detailed notes and photographs.

CD - Exotic Voices and Rhythms of the South Seas
ARC, UK
The cover and title make this disc look like a collection of bland tourist pap. It's actually a very well-chosen and accessible collection of David Fanshawe's recordings from several Polynesian islands as well as music of Melanesia and Micronesia.
CD - Spirit of Micronesia
Saydisc, UK
Recorded by David Fanshawe between 1978 and 1984. The best introduction to the varieties of Micronesian music. Navigational chants, the Jebua Stick Dance from the Marshall Islands, hymn tunes plus ships, canoes and the rolling sea.
